2013 Fluidic Santa Fe features a more powerful diesel engine

The hotly anticipated 2013 Santa FE has been the talk of the town for about a year now. The topic intensified even further when Hyundai released official sketches of the Santa FE and you have to admit – it is indeed a looker. But it’s not all show and no go.

The TheKoreanCarBlog reports that Hyundai is planning to give the Santa FE a more power diesel engine. The Santa FE sold in India has a 2.2L diesel which generates 197 Bhp and 420 Nm of peak torque.

Hyundai has used to the same 2.2L mill in the 2013 Santa FE but bumped up the power to 225 PS of power and 500 Nm of peak torque. At the same time, Hyundai has also managed to reduce emissions and increase fuel economy.

The 2013 Santa Fe will be unveiled at the 2012 New York Motor Show in early April and will be known as the Santa Fe in all the markets, contrary to some media reports that speculated on the use of the 'ix45' nameplate in select markets.

Back home, we can expect Hyundai to introduce the replacement in 2013. Hyundai may choose a CKD route or a semi CKD route to make it more price competitive. Toyota has recently upgraded the Fortuner while new entrants like the Koleos and Pajero Sport are some of the alternatives to the Santa Fe.
