Frankfurt Live - 2014 Alpina D3 is a delusively tame diesel monster
The 2014 Alpina D3 based on the new BMW 3 Series is on view here at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new D3 is adorned with subtle body skirting that preserves the identity of the 3 Series. The 19" Alpina Classic alloy wheels with their turbine blade design leaves the best known driver's car with a dynamic appeal. The German tuning specialist also offers optional 20-inch alloy wheels.
To be available in sedan and station wagon bodystyles, the 2014 Alpina D3 is powered by an in-line six-cylinder 3.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine which nurtures 345 horses. The oil burner offers a massive 700 Nm of torque to play with. This is also the first time the D3 is powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine, and the Euro-6 compliant mill is also used on Alpina's XD3 and D5.
The new D3 can accelerate from rest to 100kph in just 4.6 seconds and manages a top whack of 279kph. In spite of the inspiring performance, the diesel rocket returns a commendable combined fuel economy of 53.3mpg (18.78kpl) with CO2 emission of 139 g/km.
RHD versions of the D3 are available only in rear wheel drive configuration while LHD models come with all wheel drive system as an option. Alpina also let customers to specify the car with a limited slip differential.
