NAIAS Live - 2014 BMW M3
BMW have just taken the wraps off the 2014 M3 at the Detroit Motor Show today. Though its been over a couple of years since the launch of the F30 3 Series, we haven't seen a 'M' version until today.
Power for the new M3 comes from a newly-developed 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine. Using BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology, this engine spits out 431 hp and 550 Nm of torque. When equipped with the optional 7-speed M Double-Clutch transmission (the standard gearbox option is a 6-speed manual), the M3 can race from 0-100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds.
The top-speed of the M3 is electronically limited to 250 km/h, but can be increased optionally to 280 km/h. Under the European driving conditions, the M3 achieves an average of 12.04 km/l.
The new M3 is about 80 kg lighter than its predecessor. By using materials such as CFRP (Carbon-fiber reinforced Polymer) for the roof, the M3 tips the scale at a mere 1,520 kg.
