EICMA 2014 Live - 2015 Ducati Multistrada 1200 with Testastretta DVT engine
First production motorcycle to get independent variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust camshafts.
The 2015 Ducati Multistrada world premiered at the ongoing EICMA 2014, the world's biggest motorcycle expo which is taking place in Milan, Italy.
The bodywork of the tourer features minor tweaks like revised beak, radiator shroud and front brake caliper mounts. The party trick however is the new 1,198 cc L-Twin Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) engine which produces higher power and torque outputs of 160 PS (157.74 bhp) at 9,500 rpm and 136 Nm at 7,500 rpm respectively.
The independent variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust camshafts, a first in the two wheeler industry, enables the engine to have varying valve overlap value which directly translates into a highly flexible performance. The 6-speed gearbox with a wet multiplate slipper clutch has been retained.
The new adventure tourer comes packed with many electronic nannies. The most significant of them is the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) which dynamically measures vital parameters like roll, yaw and pitch angles as well as the rate of their change.
The data from IMU is used by onboard electronic systems like Cornering System which deploys ABS even on the bends to avoid sliding, Ducati Corner Lights (in the S variant), Ducati Wheelie Control (with 8-level sensitivity), and Ducati Traction Control. The IMU also supports the semi-active Ducati Skyhook Suspension system of the Multistrada 1200 S.
All variants come with standard Electronic Cruise Control while the top-end S variant also offers the Ducati Multimedia System with Bluetooth smartphone integration.
