2015 NAIAS Live - 2015 Mini John Cooper Works
Most powerful engine fitted to a serial production Mini.
The 2015 Mini John Cooper Works has its public premiere at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show (2015 NAIAS). Based on the new generation model which went on sale in India in November 2014, the John Cooper Works is the performance oriented version of the small car.
Engineers have fitted it with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with TwinPower Turbo technology. The car develops 231 hp of power and 320 Nm of torque, and is available with a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. BMW claims this is the most powerful engine ever fitted on a serial production model of the Mini.
Compared to its predecessor, the new Mini JCW makes 10 percent more power and 23 percent more torque. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.3 seconds with the manual gearbox and 6.1 seconds with the automatic.
Apart from the engine, the Mini JCW gets a newly designed front apron, larger cooling air inlets, a special JCW spoiler and 17-inch light alloy wheels. An uprated suspension system, a tuned exhaust and newly developed Brembo brakes are other features on the JCW.
