2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia unveiled - IAB Report [Video]

Debuts new 510 hp twin turbo V6 engine.

Alfa Romeo have finally unveiled one of the company's most highly anticipated products in recent history - the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan. Dubbed as the spiritual successor to the Alfa Romeo 159, the Giulia heralds the revival of the 105-year old brand.

The Giulia banks on character and performance to attract customers who are otherwise pulled towards cars with long equipment lists.

Exterior wise, the top-of-the-range Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio gets an all new design, but still retains the iconic trefoil nose.

The inverted triangular grille is flanked by a sleek pair of projector headlamps with LED DRLs, while the lower fascia gets a large pair of 4C-inspired air ducts. The sculpted hood also gets cooling ducts, further complimenting the power of the engine underneath it.

At the side, it gets a "cloverleaf" badging and side air intake that extends as a muscular shoulder line towards the rear. Being the performance-oriented Quadrifoglio variant, it replaces chrome details with matte black, as seen in the window surrounds and dark rims. The rear gets sleek LED taillamps, a rear spoiler, and a diffuser that houses a quad exhaust system.

Alfa Romeo have integrated ultralight materials in its body structure, thus resulting in a class-leading power-to-weight ratio, claims the company. The new Giulia Quadrifoglio is also equipped with a front Active Aero Splitter, which manages adequate downforce levels for higher stability at high speeds around corners.

The Giulia Quadrifoglio (top-end variant) sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds

Although the insides haven't been revealed, Alfa Romeo has divulged that the Giulia has a driver-focused interior with main controls integrated on the steering wheel, similar to the latest Ferraris. The cabin is adorned with a choice of premium materials such as carbon fibre and real wood.

While the Alfa Romeo Giulia will offer a range of petrol and diesel aluminum engines, the only unit confirmed at the moment is the range-topping twin turbo V6 engine "developed with Ferrari technology". It produces 510 hp, thus enabling the Giulia Quadrifoglio to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Power is sent to a driver-focused rear- or four-wheel drive system.

Alfa Romeo claims that the powerful V6 engine is also fuel efficient thanks to an electronically-controlled cylinder deactivation system. Stopping power also comes from a set of optional carbon ceramic brakes.

The new Alfa Romeo is expected to make its public debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and is likely to go on sale not before 2016. You can read the press release below the gallery for more info.
