All-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu spotted undisguised in China - Spied

Expected to launch later in the year.

According to Chinese car portal iFeng, these are the first images of the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu which is expected to be revealed later in the year. Moving from the eighth generation model which was presented in 2011, the new Malibu is reportedly based on an updated version of the Epsilon II platform (the Epsilon II underpins the outgoing Malibu).

The new Malibu has been spotted testing around the Nurburgring.

The mid-size sedan has been spied undergoing testing around the Nurburgring, suggesting that engineers are paying more attention to the dynamics of the car.

Judging by these spyshots, the overall design and stance of the new Malibu is identical to the outgoing model. For example, the points at which the rear doors end (the rear door end point meets the center of the rear wheel), and the starting point of the front doors are exactly like the outgoing Malibu.

The new Malibu could carry over its engines from its predecessor.

Engine options, according to reports, will be carried over from the current generation Malibu though GM could introduce new and updated engines along the car's lifecycle. iFeng is reporting a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine options.

The Malibu is available in nearly 100 countries on six continents, and is manufactured in markets like the United States, South Korea, China, Uzbekistan and Russia. GM could stage the reveal of the new Malibu at the upcoming Auto Shanghai in April, considering it is China's largest auto show.

An April reveal at the Auto Shanghai seems plausible.
