Suzuki has finally unveiled the 2016 Suzuki Baleno hatchback at the 2015 IAA in Frankfurt, which slots above the Suzuki Swift. Its Indian counterpart, the Maruti YRA (codename), will launch during India's festive season.
The exterior design was previewed by the Suzuki iK-2 concept from the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. While there is no info on the pricing, the 2016 Suzuki Baleno will be a bridge between the B-segment and the C-Segment that comprises of well-established rivals like the VW Golf, Kia cee’d, Hyundai i30 and Peugeot 308 in European markets, but at a much lower price. Suzuki clearly states that the Baleno is a B-Segment vehicle, while the aforementioned models are in the C-Segment of Europe.
At the tape, the Baleno is 3,995 mm x 1,745 mm x 1,470 mm (1,460 mm with SHVS) (Length x Width x Height). It has a boot space of 355 liters and comes with Smartphone Linkage display and Apple CarPlay support.
The Suzuki Baleno comes with a distinctive interior design that appears to be well-kitted. Spyshots show that the car has automatic climate control, an MID, a multifunction steering-wheel from the Swift.
The Baleno's based on Suzuki’s next-gen platform that has been optimized for fuel efficiency and dynamic performance. Under the hood, it is confirmed to pack a 1.0-liter Boosterjet, a 1.2-liter Dualjet engine and a 1.2 Dualjet engine with the SHVS system, which is featured in the new Maruti Ciaz.
The SHVS mild hybrid system, which is featured in the new Maruti Ciaz, will be offered for better fuel mileage. It comprises of a start/stop system, brake energy recuperation and torque assist.
Sales of the Baleno will commence in Europe in Spring of 2016.
