Fuel efficiency improved by 18 percent.
According to a report on the Economic Times, the 2016 Toyota Prius will have its market introduction in India next year. The fourth generation of the popular hybrid had its public premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, and builds upon its predecessor with lower CO2 emissions and higher fuel economy.
Based on the all-new TNGA platform, the 2016 Prius measures 4,540 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width, 1,470 mm in height and 2,700 mm in wheelbase, and features a 502 liter trunk. Toyota claims 60 percent better rigidity thanks to strong adhesives, laser screw welding, and a cylindrical frame.
On the powertrain front, the 2016 Prius gets a 1.8-liter four-cylinder DOHC engine which develops 97 bhp at 5,200 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm. It is assisted by an electric motor, which sources power from a new nickel metal hydride battery, and contributes a further 71 bhp.
According to Toyota, the petrol engine now delivers 40 percent thermal efficiency, which is comparable to a diesel motor, and fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions have seen improvements of 18 percent over the previous generation mode.
