2015 NAIAS Live - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
Powered by a new 3.5-litre V6 engine.
Toyota has introduced the 2016 Tacoma pickup truck at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. With muscular design, use of lighter but stronger materials, and inclusion of a new 3.5-litre V6 which runs on Atkinson cycle, the 2016 Tacoma has a lot going for it.
Starting with the looks: Aggressive styling is enhanced by the tall stance, presence of LED daytime running lights, flared wheel arches, and chunky wheels mounted on wheel sizes ranging from 16 to 18 inches.
On the inside, the Tacoma comes loaded with features like wireless charging, dual zone climate control, touchscreen-enabled audio system, blind-spot monitor, push-button start, and leather trimmed seats.
The feature list also includes projector headlamps, lowering mechanism for the tailgate which prevents it from slamming down, driver aids like traction control and crawl control - the latter lets the vehicle accelerate/brake on its own at speeds up to 5 mph.
Both 4x2 and 4x4 versions will be available in a total of five grades. Engine options include a 2.7 litre 4-cylinder unit and a new 3.5-litre V6. Both consume petrol, while the latter is new and is based on the Atkinson cycle instead of the conventional Otto cycle of internal combustion. A 6-speed automatic gearbox comes standard while the V6 can also be specced with a manual.
