2017 Suzuki SV650 unveiled at EICMA 2015 - IAB Report
To replace the Suzuki SFV650 Gladius.
The all-new Suzuki SV650 has been unveiled at the 2015 EICMA in Milan. The third generation SV650 will succeed the Suzuki SFV650 Gladius which replaced the second generation SV650. It is said to be a lighter and a more powerful successor to the Gladius.
The 2017 Suzuki SV650 features a newly designed trellis frame made of lightweight steel and a significantly reengineered component- and body-work compared to the Gladius. The result is said to be a lighter and a leaner product. The fuel tank is 2.5 inches narrower despite having the same capacity. The engine alone features 60 new/redesigned parts.
The 2017 SV650 is powered by a heavily revised version of the Gladius's 645 cc engine that has become a more powerful and cleaner unit. It is a liquid-cooled 90-degree V-twin motor with DOHC that produces 76 PS at 8,500 rpm and 64 Nm at 8,100 rpm. The engine features a twin-spark plug arrangement per cylinder and has a Dual Throttle Valve fuel injection system. There is also a throttle-body integrated idle speed control system that enables a punchier launch from halt.
The SV650 is equipped with a 41 mm standard telescopic fork, a link-type rear suspension with a monoshock, 17-inch five-spoke cast aluminium alloy wheels with radial tyres, a 290 mm dual front and a 240 mm rear disc brake, with a Nissin ABS system as an option. The ABS version will be introduced as the Suzuki SV650A.
