2018 Honda Goldwing showcased at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show - Live

The 2018 Honda Goldwing has been showcased at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. Here are the live images of the tourer from the show.

The 2018 Honda Goldwing features a host of improvements over the previous generation model to make it lighter, and more involving to ride. For starters, there are two variants - the Goldwing and the Goldwing Tour. The two variants are available in manual transmission and DCT guise. The Goldwing Tour comes with airbag as an option too. The Goldwing misses out on the top case; rear audio speakers; Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC); electric damping-adjust, center stand, and heated grips. It gets a shorter windscreen and manual spring preload adjustment.

The design of the fairing is updated for better aerodynamics. Honda claims an improvement of 11.8 percent in aerodynamic efficiency. The windscreen can be adjusted electrically. The lighting system is all-LED, and the instrument cluster is an analogue-digital combo affair. There is a 7-inch full-colour TFT screen, with Apple CarPlay compatibility. Heated grips and seats are standard in all 2018 Goldwing Tour models.

The 2018 Honda Goldwing draws power from a 1,800 cc horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine. The powerplant mates with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT unit. The latter features forward/reverse Walking Mode as well. Highlights of the electronic package includes ride by wire with Tour, Sport, Economy, Rain riding modes; HSTC; Hill Start Assist; Cruise Control; Smart key, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

For suspension, the 2018 Honda Goldwing employs double wishbone at the front. It incorporates a pair of forked arms and does away with the friction between the outer and inner tubes of conventional telescopic forks. This set up results in 30% reduced shock transmission to the handlebars; and a 40% reduction in the inertial mass at the front end. The rear gets a Pro-Link Showa monoshock. The front and rear suspension are electrically controlled.

Brakes include dual 320 mm front discs with Nissin radial callipers, and a rear single 316 mm disc. The brakes feature combined ABS for optimum safety. Prices for the 2018 Honda Goldwing start from USD 23,500, and USD 26,700 for the Goldwing Tour (both MSRP). The bikes will enter the US showrooms in February 2018.
