Next-gen Volvo S60 teased, will debut on June 20
Volvo has released the first teaser video of the next-gen Volvo S60. It will be unveiled at the company’s new US manufacturing plant in Charleston, South Carolina on 20 June, 2018.
The teaser video only confirms that the next-gen S60's design is heavily influenced by the Volvo S90. We have included an enhanced image below to give a clearer look at the front-end. Interestingly, the all-new Volvo S60 seen here carries a Polestar badge on its radiator grille, indicating that it’s a Polestar Engineered vehicle.
Polestar Engineered is a new upgraded programme developed especially for 60 Series T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid Volvos. The 2018 Volvo S60 is the first model upgraded under this programme by Polestar, which is Volvo’s electric performance arm now. Also, beginning with this model, Volvo will stop offering diesel engines in its PVs.
Inside, the new Volvo S60 should be nearly identical to the latest Volvo V60. Both cars are likely to have the same features as well. This would mean Volvo’s latest sedan being loaded with 9-inch Sensus touchscreen infotainment system, head-up display, ventilated front seats with massage function, 4-zone automatic climate control, 1,400-watt, 19-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system with a 12-channel amplifier, City Safety with Auto Brake, Pilot Assist and more.
Volvo is expected to offer the new S60 with the 2.0-litre T4 turbocharged petrol engine, the 2.0-litre T5 turbocharged petrol engine and the 2.0-litre T6 supercharged and turbocharged engine. A non-Polestar Engineered (lower tuned) version of the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain is also likely to be offered.
The new generation Volvo S60 will be manufactured exclusively at the new plant in Charleston. It could go on sale in India in the first half of 2019.
