Triumph Motorcycles has released teaser video and photographs of the next-generation Tiger range, revealing a few details about the upcoming middleweight adventure tourer products.

The teaser photograph gives a glimpse at the motorcycle’s revised front fascia that will pack a unibrow style LED DRL and a pair of auxiliary lights that are most definitely a part of the lean-sensitive (cornering) lighting function. The cornering lights feature, however, will most likely be an optional extra. The teaser video, on the other hand, reveals the cross-spoke layout on the off-road spec version of the Tiger family.

The company’s UK website has revealed the name of the variants of the motorcycle. Unlike the existing nomenclature that distinguishes the road-spec model under the XR range and the off-roaders as XC variants, the 2020 series will be divided under “Rally” and “GT” tags. While the details are scarce at the moment, we believe that the XC or the off-road series will take the Rally tag while the road-biased XR range will be called the GT.

The 2020 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally series will pack off-road biased setup that will include long-travel suspension, better engine protection (metal bash plate) and tubeless tyre compatible cross-spoke wheels with a 21-inch unit at the front. The GT range will feature relatively lower travel rating for the suspension, a fibre engine cowl and alloy wheels with a 19-inch front unit.

Spy photographs of the test mules have already various details of the 2020 model. The chassis, for example, will come equipped with a bolted sub-frame instead of a welded unit. This will make the repairs easier and cheaper in case the sub-frame is damaged due to a fall or crash. The fuel tank will be noticeably different from the unit on the existing model, although we do not expect a massive drop in capacity.

Engine specifications will undergo several changes to comply with the upcoming Euro-V emission norms. The new tag of the motorcycle already confirms an increase in displacement, and the 2020 Tiger series will feature a 900 cc motor (as against 800 cc on the outgoing model). The inline three-cylinder liquid-cooled setup will be carried forward on the 2020 iteration of the motorcycle. The increased displacement will most definitely result in higher power and torque output numbers. The current model, for reference, draws 95PS of max power at 9,500 rpm and a peak torque of 79 Nm at 8,050 rpm from the 800 cc liquid-cooled, 12-valve, DOHC, in-line 3-cylinder motor.

The new 2020 Triumph Tiger 900 will arrive in Rally and GT versions. The motorcycle will be revealed on 3 December.
