7-seat Maruti Wagon R back in the rumour mill, June launch claimed - Report

The idea of the 7-seat Maruti Suzuki/Suzuki Wagon R isn't new in the market. However, C V Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki, had quashed rumours saying that demand for such a model is too low. Now, a new report says that a 7-seat Maruti Wagon R is in the making and it's coming next month.

Maruti Suzuki had launched the new generation Wagon R in January. Unlike the previous generation model, the all-new model sits on the Heartect platform that is capable of spawning a 7-seater. In fact, the Maruti Ertiga sits on a version of this platform only.

The new report says that 7-seat Maruti Wagon R MPV is likely to be sold exclusively through Maruti Suzuki's premium retail channel - Nexa. The 2019 Maruti Wagon R hatchback is sold through Arena dealerships. One of the reasons why the MPV version is likely to be sold through Nexa dealership is because it will be a fairly loaded car in terms of equipment, premium interiors and comfort features.

The reports hints that the car may carry a different name badge altogether, which will differentiate it from the Wagon R family and the company will thus be in a more justified position to retail it as a Nexa offering. 'Solio' is one of the possible names.

The all-new Maruti Wagon R's MPV version may carry a different name, possibly 'Solio', and may employ the same K12M 1.2 litre petrol engine.

In terms of mechanicals, the 2019 Maruti Wagon R's MPV version expected to share the same K12M 1.2 litre petrol engine from the current 2019 Wagon R. This engine delivers 82 bhp (83.1 PS) of maximum power along with 113 Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices may include 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual.
