Audi Q1 could be an "interesting product" for India says Head - Report
Based on the MQB platform.
Audi has confirmed that it will introduce 60 different models by 2020, including three all-new crossovers/SUVs on the Q family. Last week, during 126th Annual General Meeting of Audi AG in Neckarsulm, Germany, Audi said that it will introduce the entry-level Q1, a range-topping Q8 and a "sporty SUV with electric drive in the upper-mid segment".
While the Q1 has been confirmed for a reveal next year, Audi is yet to announce the target markets for the sub-Q3 crossover. It has however confirmed that the model will be manufactured in Ingolstadt from 2016.
Speaking to Autocar Professional, Mr. Joe King, Head of Audi India, said that the Q1 "could be an interesting product" for India, hinting that India may be one of the several global markets to get this baby-SUV. If launched, the Q1 would serve as Audi India's entry-level model, possibly undercutting the A3 Sedan (which starts at INR 24.56 lakhs, ex-Showroom, Delhi) on price.
Like the A3 Sedan, the Q1 too will be based on the MQB platform, and will be powered by a range of four-cylinder TFSI and TDI engines, paired to manual and automatic transmissions and optional AWD drivetrain.

Audi says that it will invest 24 billion Euros (1,67,400 crores INR) between 2015-2019, out of which 70 percent will go into development of new models and technologies, the Q1 being a prime example.
