Spied - IAB reader snaps the Bajaj RE60 with plastic curtains
The Bajaj RE60 was spotted on test by Indian Autos Blog reader, Mr. Shatrughan Saxena. As seen, the RE60 gets a dashboard-mounted gear lever and plastic curtains instead of traditional windows.
The RE60 will have its Indian launch after October this year since the government of India said that quadricycles can ply on Indian roads after October 1, 2014. However, there is a good chance that the RE60 will launch in export markets before commencing sales in India.
A recent report read that Bajaj had already started manufacturing the quadricycle at its Waluj plant in Aurangabad. About 2,000-2,500 units of the RE60 have already been made in left- and right-hand drive configurations. Final stages of validation are ongoing before they are shipped to their respective export markets, the report said.
To recap, the RE60 is powered by a 216 cc liquid-cooled, 4-valve, fuel-injected engine with triple spark technology. The power and torque outputs of this engine remain unknown, though Bajaj says it will do 37 km/l and emit 60 gm of CO2 per km. The RE60 will achieve a top-speed of 70 km/h and will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. LPG, CNG and gasoline variants of the quadricycle will be offered.
