BMW Concept 8 Series - IAA 2017 Live
The BMW Concept 8 Series made its debut in May at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. It is being showcased at the IAA 2017 in Frankfurt, Germany. The concept previews the forthcoming BMW 8 Series coupe slated to arrive next year.
The design of the BMW Concept 8 Series is a fresh interpretation of signature BMW design elements. As always, the nose bears a large kidney grille with vertical chrome slats. However, it is placed lower and slants inwards as it approaches the air intake further down. The kidneys are houses in a single frame. It is flanked by slim laser headlamps with a hexagonal profile for the LED signature. The silhouette of the car bears a classic coupe profile with a long hood and a sloping roofline that tapers downwards into a slight spoiler-like element at the rear. The L-shaped blade like tail lamps help emphasise the width of the car.
As is the case with BMW products, the interior layout is driver centric. The wide centre console houses a touchscreen and is devoid of physical buttons. The cabin of the BMW Concept 8 Series is finished in lighter shades with Merino leather in Dark Brown and Fjord White. The centre console, steering wheel, aircon vents and door panels feature brushed aluminium highlights.
BMW is yet to shed light on the specifications of the car. We expect the standard 8-Series to borrow engine options from the BMW 7-Series. Aside from the standard 8-series coupe model, there will also be a more performance oriented BMW M8 joining the lineup.
