BMW X7 xDrive40i spied on test in India, to be launched in September
Spy shots had revealed last week that the BMW X7 xDrive40i was being brought to Pune. As expected, it was being sent to ARAI for homologation, new spy shots have confirmed.
The BMW X7 xDrive40i seen here is painted in Sunstone Metallic and fitted with emission testing kit at the rear section. The emission testing kit is known as Real Driving Emission (RDE) analyser which, as the name suggests, is used to check out emission levels of a car.
BMW India will introduce the X7 in India in the range-topping M50d engine variant, which was displayed at the annual India Art Fair this year. This will be CBU import. Later this year, in September, locally assembled relatively economical xDrive40i and xDrive30d engine variants will join the range. The xDdrive50i engine variant isn't planned for our market at the moment.
Below are the specifications of the BMW X7 range:
- xDrive40i - 3.0-litre petrol engine (340 PS/450 Nm), 8-speed automatic transmission, AWD
- xDrive50i - 4.4-litre petrol engine (462 PS/650 Nm), 8-speed automatic transmission, AWD
- xDrive30d - 3.0-litre diesel engine (265 PS/620 Nm), 8-speed automatic transmission, AWD
- M50d - 3.0-litre diesel engine (400 PS/760 Nm), 8-speed automatic transmission, AWD

The grandest member of the BMW X family will come loaded with a host of features such as its BMW Live Cockpit Professional comprising a 12.3-inch fully virtual instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central display, five-zone climate control, six-colour ambient lighting, 10-speaker audio system, onboard Wi-Fi, a wireless smartphone charging pad and panorama glass roof Sky Lounge. Available features will vary as per the configuration selected.
The BMW X7 should cost over INR 1.5 crore (ex-showroom) in the M50d engine variant. Its xDrive40i and xDrive30d engine variants may cost just over INR 1 crore (ex-showroom), though. The full-size SUV will rival the likes of Mercedes GLS, Range Rover and Lexus LX in our market.
