BS-VI Triumph Street Triple RS Indian launch scheduled in January 2020 - Report

The 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS recently made its debut ahead of its launch in select international markets. While the official Indian launch details are scarce, motoring portal, BikeWale claims that the updated middleweight roadster from the British marquee will reach our shores in January 2020.

The new 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS features an updated design and added features such as Bluetooth compatible instrument console.

The 2020 iteration of the Street Triple RS gets a styling upgrade, Euro-V compliant motor and new features, all of which will result in a price increase over the outgoing model. The current Street Triple RS, for reference, retails at INR 11.13 lakh*. The list of competitors for the Street Triple RS includes the newly launched KTM 790 Duke (890 Duke in the making), the Ducati Monster 821 and the MV Agusta Brutale 800 among others.

Styling updates on the 2020 Street Triple RS include a revised front fascia that features new, LED headlights (instead of halogen units on the outgoing model), redesigned Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), new fly-screen and a more pronounced air intake than the outgoing version. The updated bodywork is more angular and sporty than the Euro-IV/BS-IV version. Other key styling upgrades include updated silencer with a carbon-fibre finisher and Triumph branding, blacked-out control plates and rear footrest hangers, new mirrors, new branded handlebar clamp and satin metal heel guards.

Mechanical upgrades include changes to comply with the Euro-V emission norms. Yet, the 765 cc inline three-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 12-valve motor delivers the same 123 PS of max power at 11,750 rpm and a relatively higher peak torque output of 79 Nm (vs. 77 Nm) at 9,350 rpm. Key changes to the motor include new exhaust cam and new machining on the crankshaft, clutch and balancer. The three-cylinder mill is linked to a six-speed gearbox that features a slipper and an assist clutch and the Triumph Shift Assist quickshifter (up and down) as standard on the RS.

Updated electronics include a new TFT-screen with MyTriumph connectivity system software along with an optional Bluetooth module to access functions such as GoPro action camera interaction, phone and music operation and turn-by-turn navigation. Electronic rider aids include five riding modes, ABS (adjustable) and switchable traction control system.

Shock absorption and braking department are identical to the outgoing model. Thus, the suspension hardware comprises 41 mm Showa big piston front forks and Öhlins STX40 piggyback reservoir rear – both fully adjustable. Brembo M50 4-piston radial monobloc callipers at the front and a Brembo sliding calliper and at the back perform the anchoring tasks.
