Daimler India produces 20,000 trucks at Oragadam plant - IAB Report
Around 10,000 trucks were made this year itself.
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the subsidiary of German auto major, Daimler AG achieved a record of producing 20,000 trucks from its Oragadam manufacturing plant near Chennai, Tamil Nadu in two and a half years from the commencement of production.
A BharatBenz 2523C tipper was rolled out of the assembly line reaching the milestone. Out of the total production, around 10,000 trucks were produced in this year itself, corroborating the quick growth the plant has recently experienced.
The plant at Oragadam produces trucks and engines of the three brands BharatBenz, FUSO and Mercedes-Benz. The start of production of heavy-duty trucks was in June 2012. Along with the trucks presented in January 2014, three tractor trailers and one truck for construction-mining purposes, BharatBenz now offers vehicles in the range from 9 tonne to 49 tonne. In addition DICV assembles the Mercedes-Benz Actros from CKD (completely knocked down) kits in Oragadam.

DICV also announced top-level management changes this week. Dr. Albert Kirchmann, at present, heading Daimler Trucks Asia, will take a new role of Chairman of Daimler Trucks Asia, and Marc Llistosella, now heading Marketing, Sales & After sales, Daimler Trucks Asia & Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), is taking up a new role of heading Daimler Trucks Asia (Fuso and BharatBenz).
