DICV begins exports to South Africa - IAB Report
South Africa is the 14th export market for DICV.
As part of its strategy to develop India as a global hub for trucks based on the FUSO platform, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles today announced that it added South Africa as its 14th export market.
The FUSO trucks, made in the company's production facility in Oragadam outside Chennai, are of both light and medium/heavy category. The FUSO FA 9137 model, a light duty truck, was launched in South Africa. Exports from the Chennai facility began in May 2013, after Daimler announced a production co-operation between Mitsubishi FUSO Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) and DICV under the umbrella of Daimler Trucks Asia.
Under this activity, synergies are conducted between the company's plant in Kawasaki, Japan and Chennai in terms of R&D, product development, sourcing etc.
The FUSO FA rigid body truck is powered by a 4D37 3.9-liter, four-stroke cycle, water-cooled direct injection, turbocharged diesel engine that produces 100 kW at 2,500 rpm and produces peak torque of 420 Nm at 1,500 rpm. The truck's 6-speed manual gearbox and semi-elliptic, laminated leaf spring suspension set up aid in the 9 ton payload.
A fully adjustable seat, tilt- and telescopic-adjustment steering wheel, 2+1 bench seating completes the cabin of the FA.
