Ford India drops the Fiesta moniker from ‘Fiesta Classic’ to solve confusion
At first there was the Ford Ikon which sat in the entry sedan segment and the Fiesta which fought in the C+ segment. Then Ford decided to launch the global Fiesta with the Kinetic design in India.
At the same time, Ford India also decided to discontinue the Ikon owing to declining sales. Replacing the new Fiesta and discontinuing the old one did not make sense because the old Fiesta was doing good numbers.
In a smart move, Ford India decided to down-segment the old Fiesta in the C segment, renaming it to ‘Fiesta Classic.’ The global Fiesta was positioned in the C+ segment to rival the Honda City and the old Fiesta suddenly became an extremely valuable proposition.
However, the Fiesta Classic was still using the Fiesta badge making people clarify everytime they spoke to friends and family about the Fiesta. The question that was raised in every conversation was which Fiesta are you talking about?
Wisely, Ford has dropped the Fiesta badge from the Classic and decided to call it Ford Classic in the long run. To pump some more life into the sales, Ford India has decided to give more features on the Classic.
Ford Classic features
- New alloy wheel design
- Body colored ORVM with integrated turn indicators
- New beige interiors
- Programmable key-less entry and Blue-tooth audio system.
- Speed sensing locks
- Speed sensing volume controls
The variant line up will also be revamped to Deluxe or Ambiente (entry level), Classic or Style (mid level) and Titanium (Top of the line). No mechanicals have changed.
We loved the Fiesta Classic for being a car that puts a smile on the enthusiast's face. Adding more features to it will only make us love it more.
