Geely GC9 premium flagship sedan revealed - China
The new flagship sedan from Volvo's parent company.
The Geely Emgrand GC9 (Geely GC9) premium sedan will be unveiled in China on the 15th of December, and here are images from 163.com that reveal the car. The GC9 is the largest sedan ever made by the Chinese automaker who is pinning hopes on it to transform itself into an international brand.
Penned by Peter Horbury who is responsible for several Volvo cars, the Emgrand GC9 has a fresh design to boot. Inspiration comes from the Emgrand KC concept that was showcased at the Auto Shanghai 2013. The front fascia plays safe with the trademark Geely grille and simple headlamps.
The car has a sporty silhouette, thanks to the fastback style rear-end with a steeply sloping roofline. Large alloy wheels and a strongly accentuated waistline add character to the robust exterior.
The rear fascia adopts a simple wraparound combination lights, a chrome insert above the bootlid-mounted license plate enclosure and a glossy black diffuser with dual rectangular exhaust tips. The car is 4,956 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,516 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm.
The modern interior is trimmed with leather and wood. The dashboard features a flat-bottomed steering wheel, prominent instrument console, a color infotainment display and a busy centre console with a piano black finish.
The premium sedan is powered by a range of three petrol engines, all paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The base 2.4-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated motor churns out 160 hp and 210 Nm of torque, the 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine is capable of 180 hp and 285 Nm of torque while the high-end 3.5-litre V6 engine makes 270 hp and 345 Nm of torque.
Sales in China will commence in early 2015.
