Hero Maestro Edge 125 India launch to happen by early 2019

Hero MotoCorp has launched the Destini 125 in the Indian market with prices starting from INR 54,650 (ex-showroom). The new Destini 125 will be available in two variants – Lx and Vx. However, there was no sign of the Maestro Edge 125 – a product that made its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo alongside the new Destini 125 (christened Duet 125 back then).

Hero Maestro Edge 125 will be targeted to younger audience and thus will receive sharper styling. It will use the same engine as the Destini 125 and the performance numbers would not be any different.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Destini 125 launch, Dr. Markus Braunsperger, Chief Technology Officer, Hero MotoCorp told IAB that the new Maestro Edge 125 should arrive by the end of 2018 or early 2019. Dr Braunsperger said:

Yes, which we already showcased at the Auto Expo. I expect it either end of this year or at the beginning of next year.

Explaining the different timeline and a staggered launch approach for the Maestro Edge 125 India launch, Dr Braunsperger added:

It will be confusing for the customer (to launch both products at once). It will overstretch our dealers and our ramp up capabilities because we do not talk about just single digit (growth); we always talk about high volumes.

While the Destini 125 will be pitched as a premium family scooter, the Maestro Edge 125 will be targeted at the youngear audience. Similar to the Destini 125, the Maestro Edge 125 should also arrive in two variants. Standard feature list will include external fuel-filler cap, Integrated Braking System, semi-digital instrument cluster with service due indicator, dual-tone mirrors, and tubeless tires. The premium variant, over and above the standard features, should also get boot light and an USB charging port.

The Maestro Edge 125 will use the same engine as the Destini 125. Thus, you would see the same 124.6 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 'Energy Boost' engine that will be tuned to deliver 8.70 bhp of maximum power at 6,750 rpm and 10.2 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. The engine will be equipped with Hero’s patented i3S (Idle Stop-Start System) technology that is aimed to deliver better fuel economy. The Destini is claimed to offer a fuel economy of 51.58 kmpl, and that number is not likely to change on the Maestro Edge 125.

Telescopic forks at the front along and a spring-loaded hydraulic damper at the rear would perform suspension duties.

The Hero Maestro Edge 125 had its public premiere at the Auto Expo last February.

There is no word on the pricing of the Maestro Edge 125 yet but expect to see the scooter to arrive around the same levels (INR 54,650, ex-showroom) or at a marginal premium over the Destini 125.
