Honda HR-V spied on test in India again

At the start of this month, the Honda HR-V was spied testing in India for the first time. Now, the premium B-SUV has been spotted again in our country, in courtesy carandbike.

The Honda HR-V is most likely to be imported to India via CKD kits from Thailand.

The Honda HR-V is a smaller model compared to the Honda BR-V already on sale in India, but more premium. What is interesting to note here is that the current generation Honda HR-V is inching closer to the end of its lifecycle, and it will be replaced by a completely new model by 2020. The current-gen HR-V will be introduced in India under the new relaxed import rules which allows a manufacturer to import 2500 vehicles in India without the need for homologation irrespective of their engine capacity and FOB value, likely for test marketing.

Talking about its exteriors, the Honda HR-V is most likely to be kitted with features such as full-LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels and LED tail lights. And on the inside, expect it to be equipped with panoramic sunroof, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and sat-nav, 8-way power driver seat and full leather upholstery. Part of its safety package will be six airbags, electric parking brake, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and much more. Under the hood, it is most likely to share engine and transmission with the current Honda Civic, which means it may come with the 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol engine (141 PS/174 Nm) with a CVT and the 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine (120 PS/300 Nm) linked to a 6-speed MT.

The Honda HR-V would compete more with C-SUVs like Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and MG Hector than the Hyundai Creta.

The Honda HR-V will be assembled in India from imported CKD kits. Expect it to be priced from somewhere between the INR 15-17 lakh (ex-showroom), and at this price point, it would compete more with C-SUVs like Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and MG Hector than the Hyundai Creta. The launch should take place this festive season.
