HMSI to bring Honda XRE300 to India - Report
Adventure motorcycling is still very nascent in the country.
A report in CarBlogIndia has talked about HMSI bringing in the Honda XRE300 to the Indian market as a part of their announcement of 4 new products in the financial year 2017-18. However, this rumour must be taken with a pinch of salt.
Being its second largest global market, Honda has traditionally developed scooters and motorcycles for India and not copy-pasted products from other subsidiaries.
The Honda XRE300 is retailed in Brazil and is powered by a single cylinder 291.6 cc mill which however is not the 286 cc powerplant seen in the Honda CBR300R. The XRE300’s engine has a longer bore and a shorter stroke.
The Honda XRE300 DOHC, an air-cooled mill is coupled to a 5-speed gearbox which is capable of producing 25.4 hp of power at 7,500 rpm and 27 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. Introduced first in Brazil in 2009, the entry level adventure motorcycle is essentially an urban vehicle capable of light trail work. The bike has proven its mettle in South America and is even used by their defence forces.
With one of the four new products the Honda Africa Twin and the other being the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR, the rest are expected to be scooters, a segment where HMSI already have a 57 percent market share.
