EICMA 2014 Live - Husqvarna 701 Supermoto

Based on a KTM platform.

The production-spec Husqvarna 701 Supermoto has been unveiled at the EICMA 2014 in Italy. The road-going version was previewed by a concept at last year's EICMA.

The 701 Supermoto is essentially a badge engineered KTM 690 SMC R. The duo share their powertrain and chassis. The Husky would be positioned at a slight premium over its KTM cousin.

Coming to the engine, the 690 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit produces a healthy 67 PS (66.05 bhp) at 7,500 rpm and 68 Nm at 5,500 rpm which are identical to the figures of the KTM 690 SMC R. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch. The fly-by-wire throttle technology offers three riding modes.

The Supermoto's styling is minimalist and conforms strictly to the segments. The tubular steel frame is supported by WP upside down fork upfront and a monoshock with Pro-Lever linkage at the rear. The setup is similar to that of the KTM model.

The front and rear wheels get a disc each, and are governed by ABS. The vehicle has a dry weight of 145 kg which is 5 kg heavier than its Austrian counterpart. A bigger fuel tank and different plastic panels are the culprits here for the added heft.

Husqvarna has not revealed the price of the 701 Supermoto but has revealed that the motorcycle will hit the showrooms in autumn 2015.
