UK - New gen Hyundai i10 announced at the same starting price
The Euro-spec Hyundai i10 was launched in the UK market at the same price as the outgoing car. The company has announced that deliveries would begin in January 2014.
2014 Hyundai i10 technical specifications
The car measures 3665mm in length, 1660mm in width and 1500mm in height, making it 80mm longer, 65mm wider and 50mm lower than the outgoing car. The specifications differ from the Grand i10 as Hyundai India stretched the wheelbase and installed a larger rear door.
The new i10 is designed at Hyundai’s Rüsselsheim technical center in Germany, and is manufactured at the Izmit plant in Turkey. It launches with two petrol engines - a 1-liter three-cylinder motor that makes 65bhp @ 5,500 rpm and 93.5 Nm @ 3,500 rpm. Paired to a five-speed manual transmission, the car is able to touch 100 kph from a standstill in 14.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 152.8 kph.
The second variant is a 1.2-liter unit which develops a healthier 86bhp @ 5,500 rpm and a torque of 120.6 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. This variant accelerates to 100 kph in 12.3 seconds and hits a top speed of 170.5 kph.
2014 Hyundai i10 improvements
Hyundai says it has improved the NVH of the car without increasing weight. High-tensile steel is used in 30% of the body frame, as compared to 9% on the old i10. Hydraulic mountings for the engine are bigger and sound deadening material is used more on the dashboard bulkhead. To cut wind noise, the radio antenna is moved to the rear of the roof, and the shape of the side mirror mounts are redone. These changes have enhanced the car's drag coefficient, with the value standing at 0.31, the lowest in its class.

The longer wheelbase and the wider track have helped improve the ride quality. The luggage capacity is the best in segment with 252 liters on offer with the seats in place, and 1042 liters when the bench is folded.
2014 Hyundai i10 variants and prices
Three variants designated S, SE and Premium have been launched. The S variant is priced at £8345 (8.23 lakh rupees), the SE variant at £9295 (9.16 lakh rupees), while the SE Blue Drive 1.0 is priced at £9595 (9.46 lakh rupees). The SE Blue Drive variant needs special mention as it is the most frugal variant. It gets a start-stop and low rolling resistance tires, producing just 98g/km of CO2.
The top-end variant, SE Automatic, is priced at £10,495 (10.35 lakh rupees) and has features such as a multi-function steering wheel, LED daytime running lights, Bluetooth with voice recognition, and indicators on the side mirrors. It uses the 1.2-liter petrol engine.
Hyundai has set an annual sales target of 74,000 units for the new i10, which makes up 6.3 percent of Europe's A-Segment market.
