China - Hyundai unveils production version of the Mistra
The production version of the Hyundai Mistra has been unveiled at the ongoing Chengdu Motor Show which commenced on August 30th. The Mistra, which also goes by its Chinese name Hyundai Mingtu, was shown as a concept at the 2013 Auto Shanghai in April this year.
Though we use the word 'concept', the Mistra at Auto Shanghai looked production ready!
Hyundai will position the Mistra in between the Elantra and the Sonata when it goes on sale later this year. It will compete with the Honda Crider (which like the Mistra, will also be positioned in between the Civic and the Accord and was unveiled at the 2013 Auto Shanghai).
Hyundai will offer the Mistra with two engine options - a 1.8-liter petrol and a 2.0-liter petrol. While the exact specifications of these engines are unknown, a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual gearbox would be the transmission options.
The Hyundai Mistra measures 4,710mm in length, 1,820mm in width and 1,470mm in height with a wheelbase spanning 2,770mm. Made exclusively for the Chinese market, the Mistra gets a new China-exclusive 'Frost Green' body color.
A 50:50 joint venture between Hyundai and BHMC (Beijing Hyundai Motor Company) resulted in the development of the Mistra. The sedan will also be manufactured by the same JV.
