Hyundai Verna gets new 1.6L engine with CVT in the USA
The Hyundai Verna has received its MY2020 update in the USA, where it is sold as the Hyundai Accent. The MY2020 update has brought a new 1.6L Smartstream engine and a CVT (called IVT) to the sedan in the North American market.
The 2020 Hyundai Verna's eco-efficient Smartstream G1.6 DPI petrol engine with Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) is paired with a standard 6-speed manual or the optional CVT. This engine produces 120 PS at 6,300 rpm and 113 lb.-ft. (153.2 Nm) at 4,500 rpm. It is expected to be offered in the Chinese-spec 2020 Hyundai Verna as well, which was spied last week. In the USA, this engine will replace the GDI DOHC 1.6L petrol unit which is rated to deliver 130 PS at 6,300 rpm and 119 lb.-ft. (161.34 Nm) at 4,850 rpm. Transmission choices available with this engine are 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.
In India, the Hyundai Verna will chuck its current BS-IV 1.4- and 1.6L engines with the facelift next year. It will make use of all-new, BS-VI 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. These engines should be the same units offered in the recently unveiled Kia Seltos. In the premium B-SUV, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is rated to deliver 115 PS and 144 Nm and comes linked to a 6-speed MT or a CVT. The 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine in this model delivers 115 PS and 250 Nm and comes paired with a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT.
