New images of the India-bound Jeep Renegade mini SUV leak; debut in Geneva tomorrow
A gallery of images of the Jeep's Baby SUV that was thought to be the 'Laredo' has emerged on the web a day ahead of its official release at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
The 2015 Jeep Renegade, the B-Segment Jeep which Chrysler had announced in late 2012 as coming to India in 2015, will slot below the Wrangler in the American car maker's global lineup. The Renegade has to click for Jeep to achieve its goal of selling 1 million unit worldwide this year.
To compete with the Mini Countryman and Nissan Juke, the version here is the 'Trailhawk' model that is gussied up with dark wheels, black hood decal and "Trail Rated" badge at the front. The 'Twin Sky' roof option can be seen on the red example.
Powertrain specifications of the Jeep Renegade are unverified, but international publications are betting on the 1.4-liter Fiat T-Jet engine (that is used on the Indian Linea) to provide motive force on at least some variants. For Europe and India where diesels find favour, Jeep would use the 1.3-liter Multijet engine to acknowledge this demand.
The Jeep Renegade shares its platform with the Fiat 500X that bows in July this year. Both vehicles will be made at Fiat's factory in Melfi, Italy.
