KTM 390 Adventure spied with soft panniers and solar backpack

An accessorised KTM 390 Adventure has been yet spied again, this time somewhere in Europe. The new model will compete with the likes of BMW G310GS and the Kawasaki Versys-X 300.

The KTM 390 Adventure seen here had soft panniers, bash plate and radiator grille. Its rider was using the KTM X-COUNTRY BAGPACK.

Unlike the previous sighting in which a KTM 390 Adventure test mule was seen with hard case, the latest sighting shows a unit equipped with soft panniers. The bags are most likely made from hard plastic that, unlike the conventional saddlebags, help them retain a particular shape. The right side pannier, as seen in the image, gets a recess to keep it away from the exhaust. Unlike the hard panniers, the soft panniers feature zip locks. KTM offers an inner bag for soft panniers to keep the luggage safe from water.

Unlike the conventional saddlebags, the soft panniers on the motorcycle are mounted on a carrier that is also sold as an accessory. Orange highlights around the zip liners complement the black colour of the bags. The soft panniers should retail at a much affordable price tag than the hard units.

Apart from saddlebags and the top box, the rider backpack is also part of KTM’s optional extras. The bag seen in the photograph is the KTM X-COUNTRY BAGPACK that is powered by SunnyBAG solar technology. The backpack features a 4-watt solar panel that stores power in a 5,000 mAh battery. The KTM X-COUNTRY BAGPACK is sold under KTM PowerWear.

Other optional accessories include a bash plate and a radiator grille. Previous test mules, for reference, were seen with fibre engine cowl.

Unlike the test mules seen in India, the bike in the photographs is seen with Metzeler Tourance tyres. The test mules in India were seen with Continental TKC 70 tyres. We expect the production-ready motorcycle to feature the Metzeler sourced tyres though. The front features a 19-inch wheel that is aimed to offer a balance between on- and off-road riding. There will be an option for alloy wheels to offer the convenience of tubeless tyres.

Feature list will include a full-LED headlight, digital display with Bluetooth connectivity and ride-by-wire. The KTM My Ride infotainment system, as in the 390 Duke, will offer access to several functions related to music, calls and incoming messages. The adventure model may have turn-by-turn navigation integrated into the digital display.

The KTM 390 Adventure will mount the 373.2 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-Valve engine that powers the KTM 390 Duke. The motorcycle is likely to arrive later in the year, and thus, it should be Euro-V/BS-VI compliant right from the launch. The adventure-spec bike may get a different engine map and revised gear ratio for better low-end power.

The KTM backpack comes with a 4-watt solar panel that stores power in a 5,000 mAh battery. The energy from the battery can be then used to charge various gadgets on the go.

The KTM 390 Adventure will likely cost around the INR 3 lakh (ex-showroom). It should go on sale in India in the second half of the year.
