The RC 125 joins the 125 Duke in the 125 cc premium motorcycle segment of India. The Austrian motorcycle targets one of Yamaha’s highest selling products in our market - the YZF-R15 V3.0, which is priced from INR 1.40 lakh*. The naked roadster, on the other hand, which competes with the Yamaha MT-15, registered monthly sales of 1,437 units in June.
We recently test rode the RC 125 for a first ride review at Bajaj’s Chakan plant and were quite impressed with the motorcycle. The feature-packed product comes equipped with a steel Trellis frame, WP sourced upside-down forks at the front and a 10-step pre-load adjustable monoshock at the back.
A pair of projector headlights handles the illumination tasks while LED DRL, LED tail lamp and LED blinkers all around enhances the premium looks of the motorcycle. In comparison, the KTM 125 Duke comes with a conventional halogen headlamp.
Mechanical specifications are identical on both 125 cc models from the Austrian brand’s portfolio. The 124.7 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 4-Valve, DOHC motor with fuel injection technology produces 14.5 PS of power at 9,250 rpm and 12 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm. The RC variant, due to its full fairing design, achieves higher top speed. During our test ride, we clocked a top speed of 115 km/h at Bajaj’s track. The 125 Duke, in comparison, could achieve 109 km/h at the same stretch.
Braking hardware is identical on both models and the stopping power comes from 300 mm and 230 mm single discs on the front and rear respectively. The anchoring department is governed by a single-channel ABS.
