Lohia Auto to launch the first UM Motorcycles cruiser at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo - Report
The first product will be a cruiser.
Lohia Auto Industries CEO, Ayush Lohia, has confirmed that the first product of UM Motorcycles will be launched at the Delhi Auto Expo in February of 2016. This confirmation was given to Economic Times on the sidelines of Lohia Auto Industries' announcement of entry into the South Indian market with the launch of its diesel three-wheelers, e-scooters and e-rickshaws.
The company has appointed five dealerships covering Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and disclosed intentions to inaugurate 50 dealerships in the Southern part of the country, soon.
The US-based UM Motorcycles and the Noida-based Lohia Auto had signed an equal joint venture in September last year for the production of a range of street- and cruiser-type motorcycles for the Indian market. The models will be powered by engines between 300 cc to 500 cc displacement.
The JV is utilising Lohia Auto's Kashipur plant in Uttarakhand, which has an installed capacity to manufacture one lakh two-wheelers and 40,000 three-wheelers a year. An investment of INR 100 crore is being made for business expansion. The first UM models are being brought via the CKD route, and assembled with about 50 percent of local content.
