The Luxgen U5 is Taiwan's answer to the Ford EcoSport
Taiwanese automaker Luxgen unveiled a new Ford EcoSport-rivaling SUV named Luxgen U5 at the Auto Shanghai 2017. Latest Chinese reports suggest that Dongfeng-Yulon will announce Luxgen U5's pre-order commencement at the 2017 Chengdu Auto Show on 25 August.
The Luxgen U5 is 4,395 mm long, 1,783 mm wide and 1,594 mm tall, and has a 2,620 mm wheelbase. Apparently, wraparound sunglass-like headlamps are no longer unique to the Mahindra KUV100. From the version seen in April, there are some differences in the version that will go on sale. The fog lamps are circular, the ORVMs, A-pillar, roof and roof rails are black for a dual-tone theme, and the wheels have a different design.
The interior of the Luxgen U5 is not officially revealed, but auto.163.com has a spy photo that partially exposes the layout. The interior has an all-black theme with brushed aluminium trim used on the steering wheel spokes and door handles. The gearshift lever looks quite similar to that of BMW vehicles equipped with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. There's a large infotainment system screen, which, as per the Chinese publication's report, is 12 inches wide. The U5 will have features like keyless entry, remote engine start, leather seats, Blind Spot Detection and Lane Departure Warning System.
A 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 124 hp and 153 Nm of torque will power the Luxgen U5. A continuously variable transmission will send power to the wheels. The U5 will go on sale in China in October this year.
