Mahindra plans new test track, manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu - Report

New manufacturing plant will roll-out Mahindra's future models.

Mahindra & Mahindra has announced plans of investing INR 4000 crore on a new manufacturing plant, which will be located in Cheyyar, Kancheepuram, in the state of Tamil Nadu. The new plant is expected to roll out Mahindra's future models, rather than the existing range currently manufactured in Nashik and Chakan, Maharashtra.

The INR 4000 crore investment will take place in two stages, spread over seven years. The first stage for the company is to build a test track in the area proposed for manufacturing facility, while the second stage is an automobile plant.

The Tamil Nadu government has already allocated 255 acres of land for the proposed facility, which would make it the largest facility for Mahindra in India, outside Pune.

Executive Director of Mahindra's automobile division, Pawan Goenka, was quoted saying:

We have been promised that the land will be allocated very soon. The MoU will be signed during the Global Investors Meet (in May this year). After land has been alloted to us, immediately, we will start off with the test track facility. After that we will set up the automotive factory. But, it depends on how the auto industry grows.
