Maruti YRA to get 1.4L, 1.25L petrol engines and CVT - Report
Expected to measure more than 4 meters in length.
A report on GaadiWaadi says that the Maruti YRA (codename for Maruti's premium hatchback) will come with a range of petrol engines, and a diesel engine for the Indian market.
As the YRA is expected to measure more than 4 meters in length, engineers will have more freedom with the engine options, as they will not be constrained by the small car excise norms (maximum displacement of 1.2L for petrol and 1.5L for diesel). Hence, the YRA will get the 1.4-liter K-Series petrol engine, which does duty on the Ciaz and Ertiga.
This engine produces 91 hp and 130 Nm of torque on the Ciaz, and will get a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. This K14B engine would deliver more than 20 km/l on the YRA thanks to friction reducing technologies and VVT technology.
The YRA will also get the 1.25-liter (1,242 cc) petrol engine which is seen on Suzuki cars in international markets. The same engine is already offered on Maruti cars in India like the Swift and Dzire, but the displacement is reduced to 1,197 cc on these cars to adhere to small car regulations. In its larger displacement, this K-Series engine makes 91 hp and 118 Nm of torque, and will be offered with a CVT gearbox.

Aside from these petrol engines, the YRA will also be available with the tried-and-tested 1.3-liter Fiat-sourced MultiJet diesel engine. The Indian launch of the YRA is slated for the second half of this calendar year.
