Official - McLaren reveals new 650S coupe ahead of Geneva Motor Show

Supercar maker McLaren has revealed its new product, the 650S Coupe ahead of its global unveiling at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

The 650S would sit between the MP4-12C and the P1 and is available both as a Coupe and as a hard-top convertible. The 650S is powered by the same M838T twin-turbo V8 engine that powers the MP4-12C, developing 641 hp for the Coupe. The company hasn't revealed other performance figures, but said that it would be revealed ahead of the show and that it would be an improvement on the MP4-12C's figures.

The 650S is based on a new design language from McLaren and benefits from the same drag coefficient as the MP4-12C (Cd=0.36) but with more downforce, 24 percent more at 150 mph, says the British manufacturer.

Unique to the model are a set of five-spoke lightweight forged alloy wheels which are fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. The 650S also gets a reworked version of the air brake first introduced in the MP4-12C that senses when extra downforce is advisable - rather than simply under braking, says McLaren, or when manually operated in the 'Aero' mode. Below this airbrake, a three-piece bumper, much like the GT3 version of the MP4-12C is found.

The new supercar also gets McLaren's ProActive Chassis Control suspension system that adjusts the ride and handling modes - Normal/Sport/Track - independent of the drivetrain's operations.

Despite being a supercar, the 650S offers creature comforts like IRIS satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, digital radio, wireless tethering, audio streaming and voice control as standard. Options include fixed-back carbon racing seats, electric steering column adjustment, rear parking camera and carbon fibre throughout the interior.
