Brazil to get the new Mercedes GL Class in two powerful variants
Mercedes launched the all new Mercedes GL Class in India about two weeks ago. The next stop for the new GL Class is Brazil.
In Brazil, Mercedes will be launching the GL in two variants. Both these variants are very powerful. The base model is the GL500 which is powered by a 4,663cc V8 Bi-Turbo! It produces 435bhp of power at 5,250rpm and churns out 700Nm of torque between 1,800-3,500rpm. 0-100km/h is done within 5.4 seconds while the top speed is limited to 250km/h.
The GL500 is expected to cost 400,000 Reals which is about 1.08 crores.
The top end model is the AMG tuned GL63 AMG. Being an AMG, power comes from a 5,461cc V8 producing 557bhp of power and 760Nm of torque. 0-100km/h you ask? That takes only 4.9 seconds! While the normal GL500 features the 7G-Tronic gearbox, the AMG has an advanced version of the same gearbox called the AMG Speedshift. It promises to hold on to the gear much longer for a sporty drive.
The GL63 AMG is expected at a price of 550,000 Reals (INR 1.5 crores).
Apart from the powerful engine options, the GL will be packed with features. The AIRMATIC air suspension along with the Active tilting stabilizer promises a pliant ride throughout any surface. Both the variants feature the Mercedes 4MATIC all wheel drive system.
In the safety front, you get nine airbags apart from technologies such as DISTRONIC PLUS, Night view assist plus, Light Assist plus, Attention assist and brake assist.
Brazil will be getting the GL Class as a completely imported unit from the Alabama plant in USA. However in India, Mercedes will start assembling the GL locally from September. India will be the only place outside the US to build the GL Class.
