Chinese media say an AMG will also come in the production guise.

The Mercedes GLC Coupe Concept has been photographed in flesh in China. To world premiere at the Auto Shanghai tomorrow, the near-production concept previews a BMW X4 rival from Stuttgart.

Based on the second generation GLK (renamed GLC) that will commercially launch this year, the car looks like a scaled down GLE Coupe that goes on sale in the coming weeks.

Measuring 4.73 meters long with a 2.83-meter wheelbase, the car is placed on 21-inch alloy wheels, has full LED headlamps and is lavished with a solar-beam body paint combined with matte gun metal plastic body enrichment to boost the crossover's ruggedness. The sloping roofline checks the Concept GLE Coupe's height to under 1.60 meters.

The rear has a "distinct coupe heritage" says the company which is stacked with quad stainless steel exhaust pipes and LED lights.

Powering the concept is a bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that develops 367 PS at 5,500 rpm and 520 Nm at 1,400 rpm - 4,000 rpm. A nine-speed automatic transmission drives the car in conjunction with a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
