Mercedes GLE 400 4MATIC petrol launched at INR 74.90 Lakhs

Launched as a CBU product, local assembly will commence later this year.

Mercedes India has launched a petrol variant of the Mercedes GLE in the country. Priced at INR 74.90 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), it will be sold as a CBU initially, while local assembly will commence later this year.

The Mercedes GLE 400 petrol comes on the back of negative sentiments towards large diesel powered vehicles.

This is the first time a petrol engine option is being offered in the GLE (previously M Class). The GLE 400 4MATIC is powered by a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 engine generating 333 hp at 5250-6000 rpm and 480 Nm of torque between 1,600-4000 rpm. The engine is paired to Merc's 7G-TRONIC Plus automatic gearbox as standard, which sends power to all four wheels via the 4MATIC system.

Standard features include full LED headlamps, electric sunroof, memory package for power-operated driver and passenger seats, parking package with sensors and 360-degree camera, Harman Kardon audio system, COMAND infotainment system with a 7-inch display, Dynamic Select and AIRMATIC air suspension with adaptive dampening.

Up until now, the Mercedes GLE was offered with a choice between two diesel motors: a 2.2L inline-four-cylinder unit capable of 204 PS & 500 Nm and 3.0L V6 engine with 258 PS & 620 Nm. They are offered as the GLE 250d and the GLE 350d respectively. Unlike the GLE 400 though, the two diesel variants feature the newer 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission as standard.
