MG Motor’s reported India-bound first SUV showcased at GIIAS 2018 [Video]
The Baojun 530, the purported India-bound first SUV from MG Motor, is on display at GIIAS 2018 in Indonesia. Unlike China, the Baojun 530 is a Wulling brand model in Indonesia.
SAIC Motor has apparently decided to have three versions of the Baojun 530 adapted to different markets. One is the Baojun 530 itself, while the other two are Wuling-badged and MG-badged versions. MG is not present in Indonesia, but Wuling is. In India, SAIC Motor will sell all products under the MG brand.
Introduced at Auto Guangzhou 2017, the Baojun 530 is the third SUV from the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture. The car measures 4,655 mm in length, 1,835 mm in width and 1,760 mm in height. It has a 2,750 mm wheelbase. Two engine options available: 110 kW (149.56 PS) 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 101 kW (137.32 PS) 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol.
Reports say that SAIC Motor will extensively re-engineer the 530 for India. The MG-badged SUV will feature a different grille and bumpers that have a design similar to those of MG models. Like the Tata Harrier, it will employ the FCA-made 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbo diesel engine. SAIC Motor will heavily localise its first model here.

The MG-badged 530 will roll out of SAIC Motor’s Halol plant, which it acquired from GM India in September 2017. It will start reaching showrooms in Q2 2019 (April-July 2019).
