Next gen Mitsubishi Lancer and Pajero confirmed; Does India need to take note?
Mitsubishi was once a dream brand for most petrolheads in India, thanks to the legendary Lancer and its rich rally heritage.
The Pajero also impressed Indians with its sheer ruggedness and prowess off the road. However the Japanese auto maker somehow failed to capitalize on its products and slipped down the ladder. Mitsubishi has stopped production of the Lancer Cedia since there were no takers for the C Segment petrol sedan which was priced close to much popular rivals.
The venerable Pajero also had been laid to rest to make way for the Pajero Sport, which along with the Outlander is given the responsibility of saving the Indian operations. And yes the Montero is also giving company to these two models in its own little way.
The situation is not all that exuberant for Mitsubishi eleswhere. The sales of the Lancer is dropping steadily and the cash stricken car maker needs to reinstate the cult at the earliest to save itself from the crisis. In a recent press conference in Australia, Mitsubishi has hinted on the product plan for the country till 2016.
While most of the products mentioned in the list won't make it to Indian shores, two products caught our eyes - The next gen Mitsubishi Lancer and the next gen Mitsubishi Pajero. The next gen Lancer will be launched in mid-2014 while the new Pajero which is expected to sport a completely fresh design will surface sometime in 2015.
If Mitsubishi India manages to sell its current range of SUVs in reasonable numbers, we could probably see the next gen Pajero entering India in due course. And we would love to welcome the new Lancer in India as well.
