Rolls Royce CEO confirms new Phantom to launch before Cullinan - Report

Will be the company's first model based on the new space-frame architecture.

Rolls-Royce announced in February last year that it is developing an all-new aluminium space-frame architecture for a new crossover under development with the codename 'Rolls-Royce Project Cullinan', and it has been since making periodic announcements about its developments. There's one more model under development alongside, and it's the next-gen Rolls-Royce Phantom.

All future Rolls-Royce arriving in market from 2018 will use the all-new space-frame architecture.

Last month, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO, Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, announced that the current, seventh generation Rolls-Royce Phantom will be discontinued from production this year. He confirmed that the very last Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe and Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe will be built in November this year.

Among the latest developments, the British luxury carmaker's CEO confirmed in an interview with ArabGT.com that the eighth generation Rolls-Royce Phantom will be launched before the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The eighth generation Phantom will be launched only in saloon version. The Phantom Coupe (coupe) and Phantom Drophead Coupe (convertible) will not be introduced in the new generation. Both these models will bid adieu with 50 special editions to be launched under 'Phantom Zenith Collection'.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom and Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe will be premanently axed this year.

The next-gen Rolls-Royce Phantom will be built around the all-new aluminium space-frame architecture, and so will all other future models. Rolls-Royce had announced that the first model using this architecture, which was previously speculated to the be the Project Cullinan-based crossover, will hit the markets in early-2018.
