Motoroyale (Kinetic Group) and Norton Motorcycles announced their partnership for the Indian market in November 2017. The first product from that partnership, the Norton Commando 961 Cafe Racer was launched at an ex-showroom, Pune price tag of INR 23 lakh. The next model in their lineup is the Norton Dominator.
Powering the motorcycle is a 961cc parallel-twin, air/oil cooled engine with dry sump lubrication. Paired to a 5-speed gearbox, the engine is tuned to deliver 80 PS of maximum power at 6,500 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 5,200 rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox.
The Norton Dominator features retro styling with minimal body panels that give it an appealing look. The motorcycle comes equipped with a spherical headlight, accompanied by a small windscreen. The front gets a compact fender. Behind the windshield is a clip-on handlebar that should offer a committed, forward-leaning riding stance. The fuel tank gets a chrome finish with deep recesses to lock in the knees. Norton branding can be seen on the fuel tank while the Dominator tag is placed on the side panel.
The fuel tank is followed by a rider only seat while the rear gets a cowl instead of a pillion seat, giving the motorcycle a cafe-racer look. The small tailpiece features tail light and rear blinkers behind the rear cowl while the registration plate is placed on the rear tyre hugger. Wire-spoke wheels on both ends further complement the retro look of the motorcycle.
Suspension duties are performed by upside down forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Up front is a 43mm Ohlins black-line upside down forks, adjustable for preload, compression and rebound damping unit while at the back is Ohlins mono shock with remote reservoir – adjustable for ride height, preload and compression.
Anchoring tasks are handled by twin 320mm discs at the front and a single 220m disc at the back. At the front are twin Brembo 320mm fully-floating high carbon steel discs and Brembo 4-piston ‘Monobloc’ radially mounted callipers. The rear features single Brembo 240mm disc and 2-piston calliper. ABS comes as standard. Watch the teaser video below:
