Production VW Atlas Cross Sport leaked in China
The VW Atlas Cross Sport previewed in concept form at the NYIAS 2018 has leaked in China. It will go on sale internationally next year.
The Cross Sport is the "sporty option" of the VW Atlas (VW Teramont) Dr. Herbert Diess, CEO, Volkswagen, had confirmed in 2017. It looks more stylish with a coupe-like profile and an even sportier stance, and it seats five people. The five-seat version measures 4,905 mm in length, 1,989 mm in width and 1,719 mm in height. Its wheelbase spans 2,980 mm. From these dimensions, it's clear that this SUV is bigger than the flagship VW Touareg.
SAIC-Volkswagen will offer three engines in the VW Atlas Cross Sport in China: 137 kW (186 PS) 2.0-litre, 162 kW (220 PS) 2.0-litre and 220 kW (299 PS) 2.5-litre. All three engines are most likely TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol units, and the most powerful option is likely the same unit that powers the 7-seat version in China.
North America may get the Cross Sport with the 238 PS 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine of the Atlas. The five-seat version has a higher potential in the global markets than the seven-seat version. In addition to North America and the Middle East, Europe may also get it. Volkswagen hasn’t confirmed a right-hand drive version.
