1,500 units will be shipped to Malaysia from Indonesia.

Proton Holdings Berhad today confirmed, through a video teaser, that its upcoming MPV would be called the Proton Ertiga. The Suzuki Ertiga is being rebadged as a Malaysian car, and is the second company after Mazda to badge engineer the Swift-based MPV that launched in India in 2012.

The Proton Ertiga comes with minor body changes, and is the first product of the Proton-Suzuki partnership announced last February.

This marks the first time for a Proton to not have an original name at birth. The car will launch in Malaysia in the following weeks.

The Ertiga will be shipped to Malaysia from Suzuki's Indonesian assembly line. The three-row MPV is based on the facelifted Ertiga but spy shots published earlier show minor changes to the rear of the car. But for the Proton badge and missing chrome garnish, the front-end is identical to the Suzuki.

The Ertiga teaser features Malaysian artists Zul Arifin, Zahirah McWilson, Fazura and Aeril Zafril in an action movie-style video series produced by KRU Studios, who won the mandate for the Persona and Saga launches.

The Proton Ertiga will lock horns with the Perodua Alza, Nissan Grand Livina and the Toyota Avanza, armed with the K14B 1.4-liter petrol engine with 92 PS and 130 Nm, with an optional four-speed automatic gearbox.
