Ram Rebel TRX concept revealed, previews Ford F-150 Raptor rival
Ram designs an extreme half-ton pickup powered by Dodge's HEMI V8.
The Ram Rebel TRX concept has been revealed at the 2016 State Fair of Texas. The concept is an engineering and consumer-interest study for a high-performance half-ton pickup, and in other words, a preview of a Ford F-150 Raptor rival.
The Ram Rebel TRX concept is as extreme as it looks. It's main highlight is the HEMI 6.2-liter supercharged V8 gasoline engine that develops 575 hp. The maximum power output doesn't go up to 707 hp like in the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, but is still 125 hp more than what the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor has to offer. The engine is mated to the TorqueFlite 8HP70 eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Ram Rebel TRX concept features 4x4 Performance Control System with a BorgWarner 44-45 transfer case. The system offers four different drive modes: Normal, Wet/Snow, Off-road and Baja. The suspension travel has been increased by 40%, and the front- and rear-wheel travel has been increased to more than 13 inches from the standard 9 inches. The concept pickup is equipped with 37-inch tires for high ground clearance. Mopar's beadlock wheels provide enhanced tire-holding strength by pinching the tire to the rim.

Capable of hitting top speeds north of 161 km/h (100 mph), the Ram Rebel TRX concept is the most powerful half-ton truck Ram has ever made. The company hasn't announced production plans, but will reportedly showcase it at more venues in the coming months to gauge customer interest and determine if it makes a worthy business case.
