2015 NAIAS Live - Range Rover and Range Rover Sport diesel for U.S.

New diesel variants added to the U.S. lineup.

Being one of the biggest motor shows, the Detroit Auto Show is often the place for model announcements and future products. While Jaguar finalized the F-Pace moniker for its upcoming SUV, Land Rover announced that a V6 diesel engine is being added to the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport lineup.

The Td6 unit makes 254 hp and a healthy 597 Nm of torque. It will be available on the HSE trims on both vehicles, and will come mated to an 8-speed automatic (ZF-sourced) gearbox. In comparison to the petrol engine, this engine is claimed to be 32 percent more efficient.

Both, the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport diesels, are currently being showcased at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, and the diesel powered versions will go on sale in 2015 itself as MY (model year) 2016 versions.

JLR North America's CEO, Joe Eberhardt, mentioned that the company is looking at bringing diesel engines for 'virtually every model' across the lineup in the next three years, that will sit alongside the petrol variants, of course.

In the U.S., JLR managed to sell 67,238 vehicles last year, registering a small improvement over 2013's sales of 66,962 units. On the other hand, globally sales went up by 9 per cent.
